Make it a Habit

Make it a Habit

Have you ever felt like it was all a giant waste of time?  You worked so hard, spent so much time on a project only to have it feel like it was all for nothing in the end. What was missing? Short answer, change management.

You probably got caught up in how important the changes were going to be. You could see the new shiny future already.  You did the mountain of work to get your team there. Once you accomplished your goal, you moved on to the next goal with a shinier future on the horizon, right?  So what’s wrong with that? You skipped a step.

The difference between success and failure is simple. You made the change but you didn’t make the change a habit.

So how do you succeed next time? Celebrate your achievement, and then make sure it sticks. In project management terms, it’s called monitor and control. Basically what you are doing is making it your new normal. Maybe this feels like a waste of time for you, but if you don’t take the time and effort to reinforce the changes now, I guarantee that the old normal will stick around.
