The feast is over, the leftovers are gone, and Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror! Now on to the all–consuming question… what do I buy my friends and family for the holidays? Aghh… the agony of trying to pick the perfect gifts! Each year I run around like crazy trying to figure out what I should get my loved ones. It has to be thoughtful and original, and I want to get them something they’ll LOVE. Most importantly, I want them to know how much I care. The pressure is on! I’m guessing that a few of you out there agonize over this, too. But this year, I had an idea… what if I could use GiANT’s 5 Voices to hack this process!
GiANT’s 5 Voices give us a little insight into our personalities. In short, these 5 voices all have their own strengths and weaknesses, ways of communicating, and differences in whether they are present or future focused. After considering these factors, I came up with a little cheat sheet on what kind of gift each type of person might enjoy.
Nurturer- The nurturer spends all year taking care of others, but is terrible at taking care of themselves! A gift of self-care is a great present to give this loved one… as surely, they haven’t already purchased something like this for themselves! Perhaps a day at the spa?
Creative- The creative is exactly what the name suggests! How about a present that gets their creative juices flowing? Maybe a gift certificate for a cooking or painting class?
Guardian-The guardian eats tasks for breakfast and is a diligent worker, but they need help unwinding. A gift that gets them out having fun is a great way to bring joy into your guardian’s life. How about an e-bike rental or a round of golf?
Connector- The connector loves being with people… which is a little hard these days. In normal times, I would suggest you treat your connector to a meal and invite some friends. A more pandemic friendly suggestion would be to put together a photo book with personalized messages from their friends and family. Show your connector that they’re loved by many!
Pioneer-The pioneer is a visionary. Scrap the practical gifts and go for something that lights up their desire to dream. The pioneer in my life loves space. This year I can’t quite afford to buy him a ride on the next SpaceX rocket… maybe I’ll settle for a book or a game that can let him dream about it until it’s a reality!
Whatever you do, don’t get bogged down by the task of getting the perfect gift. Instead, remember the old saying… it’s the thought that counts! And, if you find that you need help hacking your holiday list…get your loved ones to take the free 5 Voices assessment!
